A neat, if tiny, fusion

I haven't had a Tamagotchi in like 15 years but this Evatachi is pretty cool. Bear in mind, this thing is really small and simple. It has two mini-games (one is a target lock mini-game and the other has you dodging little Lances of Longinus). You feed and "interact" with it until it evolves into a grown Angel. This pretty much sums everything you will do.
Periodically the screen will display characters and mini-scenes from the Manga, like a chili Shinji in the cockpit or one of the various NERV staffers "watching" your Angel.
Pretty interesting fusion of Tamagotchi and Evangelion, proving there is nothing these brands won't attach themselves to.

Cute collectible for Evangelion fans

I bought this because I’m working on a Rei-themed ita bag and wanted a keychain that’s not just an acrylic charm of her. I did have to look up English instructions for a Tamagotchi because the packaging and instructions were in Japanese, but I don’t mind. The game itself is pretty straightforward after you read the instructions.

Great if you love both Evangelion and virtual pets!

I grew up with Tamagotchi, and have a strange relationship with Evangelion, so naturally I had to get this once the import prices became reasonable. Being familiar with the classics, I was surprised at how... round... this version is! I had to look up Nano controls to work it, but for the most part it's great!
-- Things I like --
- Very easy to control, the Nano scheme takes out a lot of the tedious menuing of the classic Tamagotchis.
- For a Nano it has a LOT of outcomes! As of right now I've raised 9 different Angels!
- Very cute pixel graphics; some of the Angels have a lot of personality! Key word here is "some". But the ones that do are VERY endearing.
-- Your Mileage May Vary --
- Turnover rate on the individual Angels is fairly short, so you can raise a lot of them quickly. On one hand, if you don't care for the Fetus stage, you'll be seeing it a lot. On the other, the Fetus stage is easily the cutest (to me) and most emotive.
- Getting certain 'class' of Angels requires leaving the Cocoon stage for certain periods of time. It'll stay at 3 hours before it can even be hatched, and after that goes in 4-hour intervals. That's 4-hours after the initial 3, so it takes a while, especially the 8+ hour Angels. While this means you can just leave it and not bother it, you do have to pay close attention to the time when hatching it becomes available, or you may miss the between-4-and-8 hours set, which has been a bugger for completionism.
-- Things That Bug Me --
- Because the Nano's screen is recessed deep into the shell, it casts very deep shadows onto the screen. This doesn't affect gameplay much, but is just kind of an aesthetic nag.
- Buttons are a little 'long' and wiggly and can be awkward to push accurately for the very timing-critical games, while at the same time being prone to being brushed and activated when worn (I've modified mine into a necklace). You get used to it after a while, but other Tamagotchi models have had better buttons than this.
- "Secret" characters in one of the three branches (based on incubation time) can only be obtained once, which just seems needlessly pedantic. Also, you need to raise every normal Angel in that line once to even get a chance at the Secrets, and when you get one, if you want to try for another one, you need to raise all the basics AGAIN. Another "completionists beware" thing.

A mediocre toy

It's small size makes it difficult to see the screen which is only worsened because the screen is recessed inside it so deeply leaving a small shadow over the screen. The buttons are a little too long and lanky making them hard to press. If you buy one you should probably just leave it in the packaging because playing woth it is a bit difficult. However if you insist on playing with it, the fetus is absolutely adorable and very emotive. I very much enjoy watching how it expresses itself.
